With an estimated budget of €429 million, The Count of Monte Cristo is the most expensive French film of 2024
Scenario
After escaping from an island prison where he spent 14 years for being wrongly accused of treason, Edmond Dantes returns as the Count of Monte Cristo to seek revenge on the men who betrayed him. When Albert watches Hydee sing and play guitar, it is very obvious that she is not even touching the strings half the time.
Not once was I bored
Featured in The Big Week: Episode #1.13 (2024). Not once did I find any inconsistencies.
The sets and scenery were breathtaking
The acting never took me out of the story, it keeps you there from beginning to end. French cinema produces a lot of forgettable films (in my opinion), a lot of fun ones, a few great ones and here and there a film that really makes me love cinema and theatre.
Nothing felt rushed to me
The Count of Monte Cristo is one of the latter. I rarely find a film that depicts love, friendship, betrayal, courage, loneliness, caring, revenge and so much more, at least in a decent way.
Now, if you are a Dumas enthusiast, your opinion will certainly differ
The three hours were worth it and I felt like it was less than two. I encourage you to watch this film, it has many qualities and it will not be a waste of time.
