Check out the most popular movies and TV shows by writer/director Taylor Sheridan on IMDb, ranked by user rating. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so that they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (man camp), set up the excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, fixers, troubleshooters, and facilitators.
I’m sure you’ll figure out which one!
Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the expectations that come with being a Yellowstone fan. The main plot so far is engaging and exciting without being too far-fetched. There are a few subplots that develop nicely throughout the episodes, but perhaps one of them detracts from the overall quality of the show.
The cast fleshes out their characters better
The visual production is remarkable; the direction and environmental creation are to behold. It would be interesting to get the perspective of people who work in the industry on how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really leads the show well.
