MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy that follows Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran of Afghanistan, who finds herself at odds with her family over the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her best friend who died in the military. Despite the persistence of her VA counselor (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Reuben), and the ease of an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy, dysfunctional friendship with Zoe isolates the pair from the world. That is, until Merit’s grandfather (Ed Harris)—who lived in the family’s ancient lake house—starts to go missing and needs the one thing he refuses to give up… help. At its core, it’s a buddy movie about a complicated friendship, a divided family, and how to deal with grief.
