Scenario

A lonely boy living in his parents' nursing home explores his obsession with the afterlife through his friendship with an elderly magician.. Elizabeth Spriggs’ (Prudence) final film. Some believe that the father’s mustache at the party is a continuity error because he shaved it off that morning.

He’s not dead

However, it’s a dress up party and the dad is clearly wearing a fake mustache to go with his costume. Edward: [Reading a tombstone] “Samuel Peet. He’s just sleeping.” Clarence: Huh.

He’ll be pissed when he wakes up

Here they are 50 years later and still working

They are not at all afraid to act or show their age. What a treat for us and what a treat for young Bill Milner to play alongside these greats of British film and theatre. Quite a change from “The Break”; for director John Crowley, but also the right pace for an older generation.

Check it out for understated acting and writing

A pleasant and pleasant film about an old man and a young boy. Anne Marie Duff had a small part (last scene) in “Notes on a Scandal”; and a bigger one in a recent Irish film called “Garage”. David Morrissey played one of the protagonists in the TV series “State of Play”; which is now a movie with Russell Crowe and Helen Mirren.
