A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, acts as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

They essentially control the land and secure leases so that they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (man-camps), assemble the rigs, and drill the wells themselves, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixers, problem solvers, and facilitators.

A great start to two episodes!

Billy Bob Thornton (Tommy Norris) is absolutely brilliant in the lead role. Jacob Lofland (Cooper Norris) is a 'Justified' Tommy’s ex-wife Ali Larter (Angela Norris) and Tommy’s daughter Michelle Randolph (Ainsley Norris) are unbearable and I’m already expecting the worst. Things are going to happen to them!

Big Green: Good!

Jon Hamm’s (Monty Miller) character, the owner of the company and Tommy’s boss, represents some of my hopefully unrealistic fears about this developing series. In short, I’m afraid that creator/writer Taylor Sheridan will go into a bumper-sticker mentality and lower the series: Big Oil: Bad! If that happens, I’ll change the rating and go!
